Dylan Obren: Calypso Bay marina manager fined for Ormeau hooning
A young man who has just graduated Year 12 at school has faced court over a dangerous manoeuvre he pulled in his ute right in front of police who then pulled him over.

An 18-year-old Gold Coast hoon has fronted court on three charges after he pulled a dangerous manoeuvre right in front of watching cops.
Ormeau man Dylan Peter Obren, who Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday heard is the assistant marina manager at Calypso Bay marina, Jacobs Well, pleaded guilty to the three charges.

They were wilfully making smoke or noise, and driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle.
The incident occurred about 4.20pm on September 2.
Police were patrolling Peachey Rd when they witnessed a Holden utility turn left from Vennor Dr.
The vehicle “fishtailed” and produced smoke for several seconds, right in front of the officers, who pulled Obren over near Pascoe Rd.
The officers noted the vehicle had to registration plates and a search of its VIN revealed it had not been registered since July 7.
The vehicle was therefore also uninsured.
Obren told the officers he had purchased the vehicle unregistered and uninsured and intended to use it for drifting on private property, the court heard.
He further stated he had just installed new suspension on the ute which he was “testing out”.
The court heard Obren had no criminal history and minimal traffic history, but that it did contain offences of a similar nature.
Defence lawyer Brooke Winter told the court his client was about to commence a new apprenticeship and needed his licence to drive to work on weekends.
Magistrate Clare Kelly fined Obren the ticketable amount of the three offences, a total of $1280, and spared him convictions being recorded, but warned him he would lose his licence next time.
“It’s a very simple thing for young people such as yourself to be disqualified, (especially a) P-plater,” she said.
