A schoolgirl had to kick a man in the genitals to stop him dragging her away as she walked home from school in the Redlands, it has been revealed.

The mother of the Redlands Year 7 student, who was allegedly dragged and pulled back by an unknown man as she walked home from school, is now spreading awareness among the community.

The 12-year-old Alexandra Hills State School student was walking along the intersection at Finucane Road and Old Cleveland Rd East, Alexandra Hills, on Wednesday November 15, 2023.

A family friend said at 3.20pm a man came up behind her, grabbed her wrist and tried dragging her with him.

“She reacted quickly and kicked him in the balls and bolted,” a friend said.

“She was walking on her own through the carpark where Noodle Talk, Sushi Train and The Friendly Grocer near the corner of the intersection.

“She’s OK physically. She was very shaken up when she got home and obviously in shock,” she said.

The child’s mother said she was not sure of the man’s intentions but he scared her daughter.

“She ran didn’t look back, we are having the events recorded on file tomorrow and no footage has been brought forward to the police yet,” her mother said.

“If anyone witnessed a man in a bright blue shirt, left arm sleeve tattoo with very hairy grab a blonde girl in a Alex Hills sports uniform on the wrist and try to drag her before she kicked him, please contact police,” she said.

A friend said, “Thank god she reacted so quickly”.

“Maybe reinforce the message to your own kiddies to kick, hit, scream, swing and run if god forbid they find themselves in a similar situation,” she said.

Redland residents have supported the family through this “scary time”.

An Alexandra Hills resident posted, “I hope your daughter is OK, very proud that she reacted the way she did”.

Another said, “Big praise to her for her quick and smart reaction,” she said.

A police investigation is ongoing.
