A bayside paramedic made a poor decision that placed her vital job in jeopardy when she decided to drive while high on meth and weed.
Wynnum West’s Kristal Maree Taylor, 37, was caught driving in Gympie with methamphetamine and marijuana in her system.
Police caught her driving on Amamoor Creek Rd in Amamoor on December 4, 2022.
“A roadside test came back positive for methamphetamine and cannabis,” the police prosecutor told Cleveland Magistrates Court.
Lawyer Clancy Robba said Taylor – who pleaded guilty on Monday to drug driving — was remorseful for her actions.
“There is no history of a like nature apart from a SPER suspension back in 2004,” Mr Robba said.
“Ms Taylor has completed one session of the Queensland Traffic Offenders Program”.
Taylor applied to be granted a work licence to continue her work in the medical field.
“She’s a paramedic, obviously the nature of that is urgent trips,” Mr Robba said.
Magistrate Deborah Vasta said Taylor’s work as a paramedic largely depended on her licence.
“I’ve taken into account the effect losing your licence will have on your job,” Ms Vasta said.
Taylor was disqualified from driving for one month.
She was granted a work licence to drive for work purposes for that month.
She received a $300 good behaviour bond for six months, with the condition to attend one drug counselling session.
No convictions were recorded.
