The court heard the 46-year-old was seen driving along Mt Cotton Rd, Capalaba on September 25 last year when he failed to stop for police.

“He was seen weaving in and out of traffic,” police prosecutor Sergeant Angela Tetley said.

“It was clear the driver had no intention of stopping.”

Sergeant Tetley said the reckless act endangered several lives.

“He was driving at extensive speeds where police were unable to pull him over, risking the public’s lives,” she said.

“He was unable to provide any valid reason to police.”

Oliver’s lawyer, Trent Playford, said his client’s behaviour was caused by a drug addiction.

“He struggles with a drug addiction,” Mr Playford said.

“It is accepted the offence is not a minor one.”

Magistrate Barry Barrett said Oliver’s offence was serious.

“Yes, the offences are serious and the legislation imposes penalties,” Mr Barrett said.

Oliver was convicted, fined $6892, and disqualified from driving for two years.
