A former cafe proprietor embroiled in a Covid-19 health regulation controversy may plead guilty to some of his charges, according to his defence solicitor.
Former owner of the now closed Vintage Apron Cafe in Capalaba, Pierre Bert Coorey, 54, of Wishart was represented in his absence on Tuesday by solicitor Kris Jahnke at Cleveland Magistrates Court.
Two supporters were none-the-less in attendance for the short hearing.
Mr Coorey faces two counts of failing to comply with a Covid-19 public health direction, and single counts of obstructing police and contravening a police direction.
The court heard Mr Coorey’s defence team had received video evidence from police on Tuesday and planned on completing their brief by the end of the week.
“I am not suggesting a trial,” Mr Jahnke said.
“If it resolves the way we want it to resolve it is likely to be a plea to some of the charges.”
Mr Coorey made headlines in January when video footage shot by supporters captured his dramatic arrest.
Police will allege he obstructed them during the January 16 arrest at his now closed down cafe.
Mr Coorey had his matter adjourned and is next scheduled to appear at court on June 14.
