Vintage Apron owner Pierre Coorey seeks donations to keep ‘fighting good fight’

A cafe owner at the heart of a Covid health orders saga has received thousands from supporters to fight his charges.

A southeast Queensland cafe owner whose arrest for alleged Covid breaches sparked protest is raising thousands of dollars while he faces criminal charges.

Wishart man Pierre Coorey, 53, has gained online notoriety among the anti-vax movement after his dramatic arrest on Sunday at the Vintage Apron cafe in Capalaba.

A Go Fund Me page started by a supporter following the closure of his business had raised $3,350 from 60 donors over four days at the time of writing.

Donations are also directed to Coorey’s business website, with no tally of the amounts raised visible.

Coorey invites supporters on his business page to donate so he may keep “fighting the good fight”.

Captured on video, his arrest on January 16 required three police officers to contain an allegedly obstructing Coorey.

He faces charges of failing to comply with a Covid-19 health order, obstructing police and contravening a police direction.

“I was locked up and will have to front court,” a redirected page from his Go Fund Me page says:

“I have also been evicted from the premises due to not requiring your private medical information and being a non-discriminatory business.

“Your help is greatly appreciated in fighting the good fight.

“I now have to vacate the premises and restore the shop back to the empty, original state which will be costly and find storage for my equipment while I have lawyers help to fight the charges.

“I’m overwhelmed at the community response in support and look forward to the next chapter.”

Coorey; Go Fund Me; Queensland Police Services; Queensland Law Society; Queensland Minister for police, fire and emergency services and Minister for corrective services Mark Ryan and Queensland Minister for health and ambulance services Yvette D’Ath were contacted for comment.
