Cuts to her throat, knife slashes her arms, punched repeatedly, dragged by her hair and tied up – a mother-of-three has spoken out for the first time since a horrific home invasion which has left her with emotional scars “forever”.

Angie Browne is still recovering after the terrifying ordeal at her home on Mt Cotton Rd in Sheldon, where an unknown man broke into her house and assaulted her between 12am and 1am on June 22.

Almost two weeks after the alleged attack, Mrs Browne has recalled the moments she feared for her life.

The 49-year-old, who is also a grandmother, said she was home alone making her bed when she heard the sound of glass breaking.

She had assumed it was her pet cat before she saw a man in her kitchen.

“He was as startled as I was and said ‘there’s someone here’,” Mrs Browne said.

“After those haunting words I ran back down the hallway and attempted to lock myself in our bathroom but unfortunately I didn’t make it in time.

“The bathroom door was opened with such force that it threw me backwards against the wall … eventually passing out.

“I was awoken not long after as I was being dragged towards my kitchen by my hair.

“He attempted to cable tie me to our fridge but I kept breaking loose, therefore I received another punch to the face and he proceeded to smash two plates over my head.

“I was extremely dazed and terrified to which he then produced a knife.

“He took the knife and held it against my throat with enough force to make it bleed and then looked at my photos on the fridge of my grandchildren and tapped them with the same knife, then calmly he said ‘you need to calm down’.

“I didn’t. I fought with every ounce of my body to fight, scream and defend my home.”

Mrs Browne said she was then punched in the face again and tied to her kitchen table as she yelled and screamed before allegedly hearing another man in the house.

Later — before 3am — her 24-year-old daughter arrived home to what she described as “carnage” after the alleged attackers had rummaged through the house.

It was then that Mrs Browne was freed and taken to Redland Hospital.

“I was absolutely terrified by this attack and even more upset thinking if it was my daughter alone at home at the time of the attack,” Mrs Browne said.

“I am inconsolable and an emotional wreck as she had her three-year-old daughter and three-week-old son with her.

Mrs Browne suffered several serious injuries including six broken ribs, knife slashes to both arms, a cut to her throat, lumps on her head as well as patches of hair missing from her head from being dragged through her home.

“My husband and I have been married for 30 years and have three children and five grandchildren. The last week after the attack has left me extremely nervous and emotionally devastated,” she said.

“Through the help and support of my husband and my children, I am trying to be strong and positive moving forward.

“The physical scars will soon heal but the emotional scars will be there forever.

“We have lived at our residence here on Mount Cotton Rd for almost 12 years without any disturbances what so ever until then.”

No one has been charged for the attack.

A Queensland Police spokesman said investigations are ongoing and forensic testing continue.

“We appeal to any members of the public who have information relating to this offence to come forward and contact the Bayside Criminal Investigation Branch on 3824 9355 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” the spokesman said.

A day after the home invasion, Detective Inspector of the East Crime Group, Steve Hollands, described the incident as “cowardly”.

The male offender observed by Mrs Browne is described as caucasian, tall and skinny and aged between early to mid 20s.

He was wearing a baseball flat cap style cap, a hoodie and bumbag at the time of the break in.
