Redlands Coast team in Port Macquarie for Ironman
Port Macquarie Ironman be warned - the ‘Sharkies’ are in town. An excited crew from the Redlands Coast based Sharks Triathlon Club have spent today getting ready for the iconic race tomorrow.

Some are celebrating birthdays, others are about to tackle the gruelling iconic Port Macquarie Ironman for the first time but whatever their story the 33 person strong team from Sharks Triathlon Club are ready to race.
Landing in Port Macquarie on the New South Wales coast over the past two days, the team will compete tomorrow (May 5) in Australia’s oldest ironman event which will take competitors along the spectacular coastline and scenic hinterland as they stare down the 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42.4km run.

Redlands City Councillor Peter Mitchell, who is a physiotherapist by profession, is going for his second Ironman finish.
“Staying fit and being surrounded by such a positive group of people helps keeps a healthy balance in a busy life,” he said.
“I’d recommend this challenge to anyone.”
Redlands local John Watt is attempting his first Ironman and wanted to give a shout out to his wife and family “for their support in getting ready for such a big event”.
“Also thanks to the Sharks Tri Club who are so welcoming and family focused.”
And Jane Conwell of Cleveland couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate her 50th birthday than competing in her second Ironman event.
“What better way to celebrate being healthy and living in a beautiful place we can get outdoors and enjoy,” she said.
