Redland Bay hoon Jordan Jeffrey Tappin, 25, has vehicle seized after ‘p**s poor’ session at Loganholme

A hoon labelled a “real danger to the community” has had his vehicle impounded while on ice at an infamous southeast Queensland “meet”.

A car enthusiast with an “absolutely disgusting” four-page traffic history has had his vehicle seized after spending thousands of dollars on it and will have to serve the community for months for his “p**s poor” hooning at an infamous Loganholme “meet”.

Visibly upset and “adamant to acknowledge his stupidity” Redland Bay man Jordan Jeffrey Tappin, 25, pleaded guilty to dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving with relevant drug present and contravene direction of police when he appeared at Cleveland Magistrates Court on March 23.

The court heard Tappin had meth in his system when police intercepted him at around 10.20pm on December 4 at Henry and Chetwynd streets in Loganholme.

Described by the prosecution as an infamous hooning location, where up to 300 people at times gather to glory in shredded tyres and smoke, it would be the end of the road for Tappin’s four-wheel-drive which was seized.

The court heard officers observed Tappin doing circle work, accelerating aggressively and losing the back end of his vehicle as he created smoke, which would ultimately expose the wires on his tyres and cause steam blasting from his engine bay.

With unsecured tyres in his ute’s tray Tappin admitted to officers on the night that he could variously see only a car-length in front of him and nothing at all during his hooning episode, some of which occurred at a “high traffic” intersection.

A police prosecutor referenced a recent death caused at such a meet and warned if a strong signal of deterrence was not sent by the court, “he will kill someone”.

Further aggravating Tappin’s offending was a four-page traffic history which included multiple counts of driving while disqualified, driving a defective vehicle, making excessive noise and fitting reflector lights.

It all led the prosecution to refer to the man as a “real danger to the community”.

Defence solicitor Bruce Johnstone said his client appeared quite immature for his age but had come to court “adamant to acknowledge his stupidity”.

Tappin, according to the defence, had gone to the location to pick up tires but was successfully “egged on” to put on a show which was admittedly “p**s poor”.
