Redland Bay Garage voted best 2022 mechanic shop in Redlands

A storeyed mechanic shop where straightforward service rules has been crowned the Redlands’ best for 2022.

A mechanic shop that started in 1945 has lost none of its touch, with readers choosing it as the Redlands’ best outfit for vehicular woe.

The storeyed Redland Bay Garage at 25 Lennox St has been crowned our best in a poll by Redlands Community News.

First opened by Jack Morrison, it’s run today by John Moore, a man with deep roots in the suburb.

A fifth generation Redland Bay resident Mr Moore was shocked and pleased with the win at the family-run affair.

John is supported by his son Chris, who joined the business in 2008 and his wife Sharyn, who does the books and long-time employee Daniel.

Mr Moore put the shop’s enduring success down to a straightforward approach.

“I try and be as upfront with the customers as possible,” he said.

“I like to try and show them the problem, show them the parts, this and that.”

Having worked for himself since 1987, the mechanic has seen it all, he said.

While all the basics are still relevant, Mr Moore said the advancement of electronics can be challenging.

And that is where son Chris comes in.

“They (the new generation) show you up sometimes but I don’t mind it – I think it is a good thing,” Mr Moore said.

“I am 60 this year and getting old and tired but I still enjoy it.

“When I stop enjoying it I will stop doing it.

“I am just a bit slower these days but I enjoy the challenge of it.”

Redland Bay Garage offers general services including logbook and servicing; batteries; brakes; clutch; suspension; transmission; tyres; cooling; electrical; body; miscellaneous; air conditioning and timing belt or chain.
