A mining worker charged with stalking will spend months on remand after his bail was denied.
Ormiston man Lewis Leland Bridges, 28, faced Cleveland Magistrates Court charged with stalking and numerous other offences.
Police will allege Lewis stalked his former partner over the course of 27 days with behaviour that included driving past her home on six occasions.
It came after Lewis had previously spent four days in police lockup last year for similar offending.
Police further noted Lewis had a one-page criminal history “replete with similar offences”.
“The consequences of any further offending against the victim in this case would be severe and the risk is unacceptable,” police prosecutor Senior Constable Lauren Collins said.
Defence solicitor Tanya Dower said her client worked full time in a second-in-charge position in Pinkenba and stood to lose the position should he be remanded.
Ms Dower further submitted Bridges’ behaviour had been an attempt at “proclaiming his love”, after a four-year relationship had ended months ago.
The court heard there was “no suggestion of physical or verbal interaction” on Bridges’ part.
Magistrate Deborah Vasta said there were plenty of victims who had alleged stalkers and who “ended up dead”.
“He is (allegedly) obsessed, fixated,” Ms Vasta said.
Noting Bridges was on probation for like offending at the time, Ms Vasta denied his bail and remanded him to custody.
Bridges is next scheduled to appear before court on April 7.
