Steven William Johnson grew exasperated when he realised his bail would be refused at his Cleveland Magistrates Court appearance yesterday.
Johnson faced a string of charges including breach of bail, aggravated supply of dangerous drugs to a minor, possessing dangerous drugs, permitting use of place, failing to comply with reporting and others.
Magistrate Deborah Vasta told the court the Redland Bay man was alleged to have been recorded by a mother of a 16-year-old while he made threats to her son.
The court heard in addition to the alleged recording Johnson was allegedly witnessed by six people making threats and harassing his 16-year-old “co-accused”.
The court was further told when police searched the defendant’s house they allegedly uncovered knives, camouflage gear and paint.
“One of the bail conditions I put you on was to have no contact with that child … well, his mum allegedly has you on voice recording threatening her child,” Magistrate Vasta said to the defendant’s protests.
The defence solicitor said the facts of the man’s alleged offending were disputed and stated that her client was at risk of spending too much time in custody, with a court hearing into his alleged indictable offences only likely in mid-2021.
She said Johnson proposed to live with his mother in Moorooka, was willing to report to police daily and wear a tracking device.
However, Magistrate Vasta would not be swayed.
Johnson was remanded in custody and again ordered to have no contact with the teen.
