No remorse from teen after spate of drunken assaults in Cleveland

A teen assaulted two people in a single night then made a shock remark while footage of his ’disgusting’ violence was shown at a court.

A teen has been called out for his “bull***t” at court after boasting about his fancy footwork during a serious assault while rampaging through a town centre.

Appearing at Cleveland Magistrates Court this week, Caleb Ricky White, 19, showed little remorse, saying “it is what it is” about his “absolutely disgusting” assaults on two train station security guards.

White pleaded guilty to two counts of serious assault of a person performing a lawful duty; serious assaults occasioning bodily harm; wilful damage, public nuisance, obstructing police and more.

The court heard the defendant was with serial violent offender Mitchell Ronald William Rees, 29, on August 17 last year when they left a trail of chaos and multiple people assaulted in Cleveland.

Video footage shown to the court showed a drunk White, currently unemployed and homeless, throwing a flurry of punches at two security guards.

One of the guards is punched in the face but manages to avoid damage.

It followed a request from three large security guards for White and Rees to leave the station after they threatened to punch the station master.

After first leaving, White comes back, yelling “p***y” and “c**t” at the guards before taking a fighting stance.

When an approaching White is gently pushed back by a security guard, he lets fly with his hands, striking at two men.

White was charged with wilful damage for violently kicking a metal grill protecting infrastructure at the station while retreating.

The incident followed an assault by his co-defendant Rees on an unsuspecting teen at a Cleveland unit.

Police said White supported Rees when he simply walked up to a stranger and punched the teen in the face, after he declined to give the men a ride in his car parked out the front of his residence.

Further footage shows White and Rees nearly assaulting a completely innocent delivery worker walking down a footpath.

Rees was in October last year sentenced to nine months’ prison and granted immediate parole release after serving 67 days in pre-sentence custody for his part.

The court heard multiple police units responded to the men’s hours’ long carnage, described by police as, “absolutely disgusting”.

“He set out to be a pest in the community … why does the community have to put up with this?” a police prosecutor said.

White’s defence solicitor Brittany White (unrelated) said her client had a traumatic upbringing and had a fight with family on the day before it devolved to a drunken series of assaults and harassment.

Diagnoses of Tourette and Asperger’s syndrome were mentioned to the court without documentation.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta urged the man to “drop the bull***t” when he complimented himself on his footwork during the assault.

Ms Vasta took into account the 12 days White had spent in pre-sentence custody and chose not to declare it to save him from receiving a mandated criminal conviction.

White was sentenced to 18 months’ probation and ordered to complete 80 hours of community service.

No conviction was recorded.
