With a menu full of quirky items to cater for everyone, meet the owners behind a new bayside cafe which has local residents excited more than a month away from its opening. 

Meet the newly wed couple behind a new bayside cafe which has already created hype in the local community despite being more than a month away from opening its doors.

Jasmin Zhu and Myles Hartley will open their first cafe, called The Mailman, in Alexandra Hills after spending almost seven years working as qualified chefs, for numerous restaurants and other venues.

The cafe, opening up on Bluebell St, is expected to be a hit with hundreds of people already registering their interest on Facebook.

“It’s kind of a combination of our names, if you add the first part of Myles name with the last bit of mine,” co-owner, Ms Zhu, said.

“I didn’t expect to get so many likes and comments on my post.

“We’re very excited, we’re expecting lots of numbers on our opening week.”

The bayside couple are getting to work on the cafe, renovating and planning for new additions.

The cafe’s menu will feature some quirky items such as cinnamon fried baos, with peanut brittle, salted caramel, berry compote and black sesame, along with several other options to make it a dairy free, nut free and vegan venue.

“We just want to accommodate for all dietary requirements, most of our menu items can be changed to suits our customers needs,” Ms Zhu said.

Despite the couple still having a significant amount of work left to have the venue ready, The Mailman is set to open in September.

“It’s scary, but we’re confident, we’ve got the community backing us and lots of interest,” Jasmin said.
