A popular waterfront cafe is under new management with a couple revealing big plans to upgrade the venue.
Yonna Powell and Jono Goss will take over the Pelican’s View Cafe in Redland Bay from June 30 with the previous leaseholders stepping away.
Ms Powell and Mr Goss already have a connection to the site, running the boat yard, Pelican Slipways, which is next to the cafe.
The pair will be handed the keys on June 30 and will spend two weeks renovating the venue before relaunching the business which will open seven days a week.
There were concerns among local residents the well-known cafe would be closing for good but Mr Goss said they were in discussions to take over the lease for a while now.
“We simply hope to build on its great reputation. The lease was available and we jumped at the chance,” he said.
“We really love the location with beautiful views over the bay with the hustle of the harbour below.
“There is a lot of potential for this building to be a hub for the Redlands community.”
Mr Goss said the owners of the property had resisted selling to developers, instead allowing the Slipways and cafe to continue serving the community.
He also said they already had plans to improve the venue which they could not wait to share with the community.
“Yonna is passionate about quality fresh, local food,” he said.
“The menu will be simple house-made and fresh featuring locally sourced and sustainable products. and simple.
“We have chosen to use Genovese Coffee as an ethical brand that tastes fantastic.
“Yonna has a great team working with her, with a focus on local arts, music talent and creating a wonderful venue.
“The upstairs area will be available as a small function space as well.
“We already have interest for yoga classes voice workshops, art exhibitions, guitar lessons, first aid and other training courses.”
Mr Goss said they were looking for an experienced cook to join the team.
