Yonna Powell and Jono Goss will take over the Pelican’s View Cafe in Redland Bay from June 30 with the previous leaseholders stepping away.

The pair will be handed the keys on June 30 and will spend two weeks renovating the venue before relaunching the business which will open seven days a week.

There were concerns among local residents the well-known cafe would be closing for good but Mr Goss said they were in discussions to take over the lease for a while now.

“We simply hope to build on its great reputation. The lease was available and we jumped at the chance,” he said.

“We really love the location with beautiful views over the bay with the hustle of the harbour below.

“There is a lot of potential for this building to be a hub for the Redlands community.”

Mr Goss said the owners of the property had resisted selling to developers, instead allowing the Slipways and cafe to continue serving the community.
