A “peaceful” street has had its tranquillity shattered after a newly renovated home went up in flames.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) spokesman confirmed the single storey residence on Waratah Ave in Victoria Point was “well alight” when emergency crews arrived at 11.27am on Friday.

Three emergency crews tended the blaze which was extinguished by 11.57am, with the property cleared by 12.55pm.

No injuries were sustained, according to a Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman.

A QFES spokesman said the fire was under investigation with the property a feared write-off.

Neil Young lives across the road from the property and at first thought his residence was on fire.

Not present at the time of ignition, Mr Young was shocked to find the Waratah Ave home fully alight.

He said his shock was magnified as he lived in the burnt property only two years ago.

“It gave me a shock because I’ve come home and the coppers were down the street,” Mr Young said.

“And they said a house was on fire and I asked ‘is it a low-set?’

“So he let me through and there were cops everywhere.

“We were told there was an explosion and the place was on fire.

“We used to live in that place two years ago.

“It has just finished being renovated.”

Neighbours reported a young family lives at the home with their two dogs.

Shocked residents on Friday afternoon walked past the suspected ruined house, with some gathering in groups to share their experiences.

The fire’s terrible sight comes in sharp contrast to the usually tranquil neighbourhood, according to neighbours.

“It is a peaceful neighbourhood,” Mr Young said.

“That is why we live here.”
