A Coles retail assistant has faced court after obstructing police officers, verbally abusing them and shutting a door on them.

Mt Cotton resident, Sharyn Josephine Rampton, 58, pleaded guilty in Cleveland Magistrates Court on Tuesday, October 25, to one count of obstructing police.

The court heard police were at Ms Rampton’s address on July 9 this year questioning another person at the property.

“The defendant has exited the residence and interrupted police attempting to have a conversation with another person,” the police prosecutor said.

“Police had repeatedly warned her of obstructing police.

“She started telling police to f**k off and slammed the door on police’s face, calling them c***s and gays.

“After multiple warnings she was detained.”

Ms Rampton’s lawyer, Kate Jamieson said her client was embarrassed for her behaviour.

“She is very ashamed of what happened that night,” Ms Jamieson said.

“She did spend one night in the watchouse and that was a very difficult experience for her.”

Magistrate Deborah said Ms Rampton’s behaviour could have been caused by substance abuse.

“It seems a lot of conflict has been because of alcohol,” Ms Vasta said.

Ms Rampton was ordered to be on a nine-month good behaviour bond with a $300 recognisance.

No convictions were recorded.
