Macleay Island man bangs head purposely on ground during violent arrest
A magistrate has implored a man to remain calm when in the presence of police after a routine arrest turned violent on an idyllic Moreton Bay Island.

A MAN who banged his head on the ground in refusal to be locked up has been told to remain calm in the presence of police.

Appearing via telephone at the Cleveland Magistrates Court this morning, Michael Hawkins, 20, pleaded guilty to obstructing police.
The court heard Hawkins had to be subdued with “open hand tactics”s during an arrest for another matter on February 3 at Macleay Island.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Angela Tetley said the defendant, who has since moved to NSW, put his arms behind his back and told officers “you will not lock me up”.
Hawkins purposely banged his head on the ground during the arrest which sent him into an epileptic fit.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta implored him to stay calm when in the presence of police.
Hawkins was fined $400 with no conviction recorded.
