A Bayside tradesman who spent his second straight birthday behind bars, after the breakdown of the relationship with his high school sweetheart, has faced court.
Jayden Lewis Hoad pleaded guilty to a string of offences including enter premises and commit indictable offence, enter premises with intent, two counts of offence to buy or possess S4 or S8 medicines or hazardous poisons, drug and property offences and unlawful possession of weapons.
Hoad has accumulated an 11-page criminal history, the court was told.
Police prosecutor Lisa Pye said Hoad was captured on CCTV on July 11, 2023 entering a staff carparking area at Birkdale Village Shopping Centre.
“At 3.48pm he gained entry by lifting up a chain-link fence, he crawled through and cut wires on an e-scooter,” Sergeant Pye said.
“He proceeded to drive it away,” she said.
The court heard police attended Hoad’s Capalaba address on July 15 and located a clip sealed bag of methamphetamine, an electric grinder and a receiver and a barrel of a rifle.
“Police located a flick knife, a knuckle duster, medications without a prescription and he refused to take part in a recorded interview.
The court heard police located an unopened cordless vacuum Hoad had stolen from Harvey Norman Capalaba days before.
Defence lawyer Jackson Freeman said Hoad had recently spent his 30th birthday in custody.
“He completed Year 12 in New South Wales and relocated to Townsville, then to Brisbane with his high school love,” Mr Freeman said.
“He had a full plan and life ahead of him but when the relationship broke down he turned to drugs.
“He tells me that was as a result of being surrounded by known drug users in this area.
“He has served 111 days in custody,” he said.
Magistrate Deborah Vasta said Hoad has entered a “snowball of addiction”.
“Eat your humble pie and do some rehab,” Ms Vasta said.
“Prisons been a revolving door for you,” she said.
Hoad was granted probation and released from custody the same day.
He was sentenced to a six month suspended sentence, with his 111 days spent in custody considered time already served.
Convictions were recorded.
