An Alexandra Hills tradie who was rushed to hospital after crashing his mother’s car while more than three times the legal alcohol limit has faced court.
James Joseph Robert Ebsworth, 34, pleaded guilty in Cleveland Magistrates Court on July 1 to driving under the influence of alcohol.
The court heard Mr Ebsworth crashed his mother’s car on May 6 at Crotona Rd in Capalaba and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital suffering chest pains.
A police prosecutor said police attended the single vehicle accident.
“He blew a blood alcohol reading of 0.157,” the prosecutor said.
“Luckily no one else was injured.’’
Mr Ebsworth, a machine operator, represented himself.
He said he felt extremely lucky he did not injure anyone by his drunk driving.
“I didn’t suffer any major injuries but I did have chest pains that could have come from the airbags going off,” Ebsworth said.
“I crashed my mum’s car.’’
Mr Ebsworth said he took two weeks’ leave from his job as a machine operator.
“After the incident I didn’t feel safe operating machinery. I am very lucky I was able to walk away from this,” he said.
Magistrate Deborah Vasta said she took into consideration Mr Ebsworth’s early plea of guilty and his participation in the Queensland Traffic Offenders' Program.
“I have taken into account you’ve forked out money to do your own course and you have no previous of drink or drug driving,” Ms Vasta said.
Mr Ebsworth was fined $1200 and was disqualified from driving for six months.
No conviction was recorded.
