A Bayside woman has been charged with assaulting her neighbour by threatening to stab her and pouring a bottle of milk over her head outside their apartment complex, a court has heard.

Samantha Ann Stephenson, 29, appeared in Cleveland Magistrates Court on Monday, July 1, charged with one count of possessing a knife in a public place, three counts of failing to appear at court, one count of common assault and one count of possessing pipes for drug use.

A police prosecutor alleged Ms Stephenson approached her 35-year-old female neighbour in Birkdale on February 11 and called her a “sl-t”.

“She called the complainant a sl-t and pedophile, brought up her daughter and threatened to stab her,” the prosecutor said.

“She started to scream and poured flavoured milk over the complainant’s head.

“She lunged at the victim with a knife in her hand. The victim felt threatened so put her hands out to defend herself.’’

The prosecutor read a statement from a 75-year-old neighbour who claimed to have witnessed the alleged incident.

“The witness said she heard yelling and looked towards the house and saw Samantha walking up close and towards her (neighbour),” the statement read out by the prosecutor said.

“I saw Samantha pour about 500ml of light coloured liquid over her head.

Ms Stephenson, who appeared via video link and represened herself, denied pouring milk over her neighbour’s head.

“I was holding shopping bags and didn’t have one hand free,” Ms Stephenson said.

“I didn’t call her a sl-t. I want this investigated more because this is my reputation, I don’t have a reputation of this.’’

Ms Stephenson also said she had “lost her family”.

She pleaded guilty to possessing pipes for drug use in Cleveland in February, the court heard.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta agreed to grant Ms Stephenson bail.

“Your history isn’t too bad and I’ll give you a chance to be released on bail,” Ms Vasta said.

The matter was adjourned to July 18.
