A bayside plumbing apprentice has faced court with a black eye, charged with drink driving over three times the legal limit.

Jack Malcolm Taylor, 20, pleaded guilty in Cleveland Magistrates Court on Monday, February 27 to one count of driving while under the influence of liquor.

Taylor appeared in court with a distinct black eye.

The court heard Taylor was seen driving erratically in a McDonald’s car park on Wellington St, Ormiston on February 12, where police were alerted to his manner of driving.

“It was the way the vehicle was being driven that alerted police,” the police prosecutor said.

“He returned a breath analysis reading of 0.153 per cent.”

Taylor’s lawyer, Courtney Launchbury, said her client made a poor choice at the time to drive.

“He’s completing his third year of a plumbing apprenticeship,” Ms Launchbury said.

“It was poor behaviour at a minimum.

“There was one passenger with him at the time.”

Magistrate Deborah Vasta said alcohol was a poison.

“When you’re young and you drink alcohol, it’s a drug,” Ms Vasta said.

Taylor was convicted and ordered to complete 40 hours of community service.

He was disqualified from driving for six months.

No convictions were recorded.
