How to get your Easter seafood fix safely

From home deliveries to drive throughs, Brisbane’s seafood suppliers are shaking up the way they serve their Easter customers after COVID-19 social distancing laws turned this year’s Good Friday boom into a different kettle of fish.

But this year COVID-19 social distancing rules have meant retailers have had to think differently.

Seafood suppliers like Brisbane Fish Market at Oxley have launched a home delivery service for locals, giving them a contact free option to source their Good Friday lunch.

“It’s safer for deliver,” said manager David Pham.

“People can come into the shop but some people, they don’t want to go out,” he said.

The market usually sells up to two tonnes of prawns at this time of year however Mr Pham expected less sales this year.

“Everything is slowing down a bit,” he said.

“This Easter is a bit quieter because people don’t want to go out.”

Meanwhile, staff at popular Capalaba store Aussie Seafood House are busy keeping not only the stocks up but their store even cleaner than usual.

Manager Irving Furedi said staff had employed extra cleaning methods for areas where customers frequent, were limiting customer numbers inside their store and had also appointed a customer liaison officer to provide extra support.
