A family who emigrated to the Bayside less than one year ago have launched a portable extension to their well loved, scrumptious inner city business.
Grant Pettigrew and his family relocated from the United Kingdom to Birkdale and since opening ‘Dougie’s Donuts’ in Newstead in June 2023, have expanded the scrumptious brand to cater for sweet toothed customers all over Brisbane with the new Dougie’s Donut Truck.
Mr Pettigrew said he knew he wanted to serve his decadent doughnuts closer to his new home, as soon as he saw the success of his Newstead shop.
“The response from the community has been amazing, the business is run by my wife and I along with our three kids who love interacting with customers,” Mr Pettigrew said.
“We launched the doughnut van last weekend and on our first day we sold out long before closing time.
“At the store we have over 70 flavours and have adapted the truck up to sell 15 flavours at a time at various locations," he said.
Mr Pettigrew said his business motto at Dougie’s Doughnuts is that “doughnut and disappointment should never be in the same sentence”.
“We take doughnuts seriously and believe trying one of ours should be an experience, it’s very different from a doughnut you would get at a service station,” Mr Pettigrew said.
“The business involves our children who it’s been amazing to see evolve their customer service skills, our youngest Hugo, 9, is our PR guru.
“Each doughnut is made fresh, from scratch with locally sourced ingredients and is best when enjoyed the same day for the full experience,” he said.
Mr Pettigrew said each day the store picks one child with the best manners to win a free doughnut.
“It’s been so warm and encouraging to see parents and children getting involved with encouraging politeness and positive customer service experiences, we can’t get enough,” Mr Pettigrew said.
“Our first day trialling out the doughnut truck was at Birkdale Village Shopping centre on the 6th of October, today will be our fourth week there,” he said.
Dougie’s Donuts have secured sites at Thornlands Community Park on Wednesdays, 1pm – 6pm, Capalaba Regional Park Thursdays 1pm – 6pm and Birkdale Village shopping centre Fridays 1pm -6pm.
