Family of crash victim Mersina Axiom bands together for children without their mum

The family of fatal crash victim Mersina Axiom have banded together since her tragic death in a three-car-crash last week, as they now make the heartbreaking preparations for daughter Olivia’s third birthday – without her mum.

THE youngest daughter of a woman tragically killed in a horror bayside car crash last week will celebrate her third birthday without her mother this weekend.

Beautiful Olivia Axiom turns three on Saturday, but she will not enjoy the warmth of her mother’s embrace on the day.

Her mum, 36-year-old Mersina, died in a three-car accident on Serpentine Creek Rd, Redland Bay, at 11pm last Friday night.

She was driving home after hosting a Tupperware party which older sister Rita Elliott said had been a roaring success.

“She would have been very happy when she got home,” Ms Elliott said.

Instead, Mrs Axiom’s husband Anthony and children Jack, 14, Hayley, 9, and Olivia are now mourning the loss of a “generous” mother.

“She loved being a wife and a mother,” Ms Elliott said.

“She loved her children, her family and her husband.

“She was very outgoing, very generous; she always cared about everybody else.”

Ms Elliott said her family – including Mersina’s four siblings – could not describe their feelings but were banding together to support Mr Axiom and the children.

“There really are no words ... it’s probably one of the worst things that could ever happen to a family.

“We have all come together for the sake of the Axioms.”

An overwhelming amount of support has also been shown by the Redlands community, as well from the Byron Bay region where Ms Elliott lives in Mullimbimby.

A Go Fund Me campaign launched last weekend by Mrs Axiom’s and Ms Elliott’s sister Cat Michalakellis has raised more than $16,500 for the Axiom family, obliterating the campaign’s initial target of $10,000.

“We are all really blown away ... we couldn’t be more grateful if we tried,” Ms Elliott said.

“The response from the Byron Bay community and the Redlands community has just been unbelievable.

“It’s very gratefully appreciated, and while it’s too soon for us to reach out ... thank you.”
