The expansion is part of $1.73 million in work on the hospital and includes the introduction of four new emergency department (ED) short-stay beds.
Also on the agenda for the funding allocation is upgraded maternity facilities.
Minister for Housing and Public Works and Springwood MP Mick de Brenni said more beds in the ED meant better patient outcomes.
“This project will deliver an increase in the total number of ED short stay beds at Redland Hospital by 40%, delivering more access especially when you need it most – in an emergency,” Mr de Brenni said.
In November 2019 the ED treated 4793 people — 32 of which were classified as category one patients requiring immediate treatment.
Mr de Brenni said the increased capacity meant locals could be home from hospital faster.
Member for Redlands Kim Richards said the expansion would ease pressure on Redland Hospital’s busy ED.

“Our hardworking doctors and nurses do a great job in providing world class care to every patient who walks through the doors of our ED,” Ms Richards said.
“The expansion means their jobs get that little bit easier and they can focus on delivering the world class health services people in Redlands expect and deserve.
“The Maternity Ward upgrade will also be finished soon and will mean expectant mums in the Redlands can give birth locally.”
