Developer assures nature preservation in everyone’s best interest at flash Redland Bay apartments

A ritzy boutique apartment complex aimed at local “rightsizers” has come under fire by some residents at an idyllic southeast Queensland village by the water, but developers have assured there is little to worry about.

From banana plantation to housing development

Developers of a smart-looking apartment complex at a fast developing bayside suburb have assured they have little interest in seeing damage done to a forested walking track fronting their building.

With units selling between $360,000 and $1.2 million Bay House by Carbone Developments is a complex of 30 boutique apartments at 143-149 Esplanade in Redland Bay scheduled for completion late next year.

Boasting never-to-be-built-out bay views, oversized balconies and a level of luxury not before seen at the locale it has never the less drawn criticism from some locals.

Commenting on Redland City Council’s Planning Alerts Lucy Atkins said:

“Such a shame that Redlands City Council has allowed another ugly block of units in this area. Already there is rubbish thrown down the Esplanade bushland from the small block building adjacent, where will the wildlife have left to go?”

And Jarrod commented:

“I agree Lucy, the once beautiful rainforest like area below is being decimated by rubbish, falling trees, the council hardly ever cleans up the area.”

However, Carbone Developments marketing and sales manager Heidi McCoullough assured damage done to the nature scape fronting the property would be antithetical to their interests.

“Our development has been designed and approved as per council requirements,” Mrs McCoullough said.

“Many of our clients love the fact that they face the nature scape/rainforest. It is very appealing to them. Controls have been put in place, as per council requirements.”

With construction well under way the development is part of a flourish of new builds in Redland Bay which, up until a few years ago, still enjoyed a semi-bucolic atmosphere.

Adjacent to this project on Marine Street one’s eye used to find only a sea of banana trees at what was a historical plantation – it now too has made way for controversial housing.

Despite the accompanying moans and groans of new development Mrs McCoullough informs long time locals have shown greatest interest in the project.

More than one third of the apartments are already spoken for and all by owner-occupiers.

“The majority of sales are actually local downsizers, who have lived in the area for a very long time, love the area, but can’t manage their large homes anymore,” she said.

“These buyers also don’t want to move to a retirement home or village, and so apartment living is very appealing to them. There is definitely demand in the area for this type of residential living.”
