Cleveland court hands out thousands in fines as drivers plead guilty to drink driving

It was a busy day at a Redlands court as a magistrate handed out thousands in fines to drivers who chose to get behind the wheel while intoxicated with some more three times the limit.

A MAGISTRATE handed out nearly $6,000 in drink driving fines today with numerous drivers three times the legal alcohol limit and more.

Alexandra Hills man Namdev Singh, 23, was fined $200 and disqualified from driving for one month after a 0.061 per cent blood alcohol level reading at O’Gorman St at 11.45pm on April 11.

Capalaba man John Leonard Ryan, 70, was fined $1000 and disqualified for three months after tests confirmed a 0.146 per cent blood alcohol level at Wentworth Drive on April 7.

Redland Bay mechanic Joshua Douglas Mann, 27, was disqualified for six months and fined $1,200 for showing a 0.150 per cent blood alcohol level on Torquay Rd at 12.30am on June 24.

Carpenter and Alexandra Hills man Patrick Selwyn Rewa was fined $1,200 and disqualified for six months after returning a 0.155 per cent blood alcohol level on April 11 at Windborn Rd in Alexandra Hills.

Birkdale cleaner Naomi Timbi, 21, returned a 0.134 per cent blood alcohol reading at 11.20am on April 10 at Napier St in Birkdale. Timbi was sentenced to 20 hours’ community service.

Victoria Point house planner Maxwell Shane Thompson, 28, was fined $1000 and disqualified for three months for showing a blood-alcohol level of 0.114 per cent during a police intercept on Finucane Rd at 8.43pm on April 5.

And Luke Anthony Unicomb was fined $1000 and disqualified from driving for three months. Unicomb showed a blood alcohol reading of 0.118 per cent at Wynyard St in Cleveland on June 13.
