Capalaba woman wins $1m lottery for dream beach holiday home

An Aussie woman has revealed the one thing she’d love to buy after an almighty lottery win.

A Queensland woman whose lifelong dream has been to own a Gold Coast holiday home can now turn her fantasy into reality after winning more than $1 million on Saturday Gold Lotto.

The Redland resident won $1,012,904.94 after buying one of the five Division One winning entries nationally in the Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4487.

Her 25-game QuickPick was purchased at Nextra Capalaba Park News, which has sold 20 major winning lottery tickets over the past two decades.

It came as a Pullenvale man had to pull into his child’s daycare carpark because he was so overwhelmed after receiving a phone call about his million-dollar Weekday Windfall win.

The man held one of the two division one winning entries nationally in Weekday Windfall draw 4419, drawn Monday 22 July 2024 and looks forward to $1 million.

The Redland woman said she found out about her newly made millionaire status while speaking to officials from The Lott on Monday, July 22.

“It’s mind-boggling,” she said.

“It still hasn’t sunk in. It feels weird.

“I discovered the win on Sunday afternoon when I got an email from someone at The Lott urging me to check my Gold Lotto tickets. I opened the email, and I thought, ‘Hmm, that’s strange’.

“I ran up the stairs and I quickly looked up the winning numbers from the weekend’s draw. I wrote every single number down one by one. I sat down, checked my ticket and I just went ‘Oh!’.

“I called my son and his family, and we all celebrated over some drinks on Sunday night. It was lovely.

“The one thing I’ve always wanted my entire life was a holiday home on Rainbow Bay. Now I can do it.”

Nextra Capalaba Park News owner Ray Fanning said he was over the moon to have sold another Division One winning entry to add to his tally of 20 major lottery wins.

“It’s great news for our winner, especially during these tough times,” Mr Fanning said.

“We love it when someone local takes home a win. It truly gives us so much joy.

“We’ve been around for more than 30 years, and we’ve sold about 20 Division One wins in the past 20 years.

“We’ve got a flurry of plaques on display behind the counter to showcase the wins.

“We always say that no one expects to win Division One, but if you try your luck, it could happen.”

The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4487 on July 20, 2024 were 30, 23, 29, 17, 25, while the supplementary numbers were 6 and 14.

Across Australia, there were five Division One winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4487 – three in Victoria, and one each in Queensland and New South Wales.
