The state government has unveiled plans to overhaul the Logan bus network with changes to 11 routes, including axing four routes but extending four others that run to the Griffith University campus at Nathan.
TransLink, the government body responsible for public transport co-ordination across Queensland, said the changes would add an extra 190 local trips a week and were designed to integrate Logan services with the Brisbane Metro.
The four routes to be axed were the 566, 571, 577, 579, with the 545, 554, 576 and 578 to be extended to connect with Griffith University.
TransLink officer Peter Milward said all changes were still under review and open to public comment until August 18.
He said the Logan changes, designed to improve frequency on some routes and add more weekend services, were necessary to keep pace with the population growth in Logan and across the South East.
“For the network to be efficient, it’s crucial we don’t double up with Brisbane Metro services,” he said.
“That’s why we’re adjusting routes with duplication and reallocating those services to better benefit the Logan community.
“It’s all about delivering greater connectivity for the Logan region and providing residents with easy, affordable and convenient public transport access.”
The state government’s proposed 50c fare regime starts on August 5 with state Transport officials expecting a 13 per cent spike in the number of commuters.
