A thieving Redland father, with a lifetime ban from one of the region’s busiest shopping centres, has been brought before the court for his latest stealing rampage.

A serial Redland thief has faced court after breaching his ban at a major Bayside shopping complex and poaching belongings from an apartment complex, in efforts to fuel his raging drug addiction.

Cameron Patrick Davey, 36, appeared before the Cleveland Magistrate Court on Tuesday December 5, he pleaded guilty to two count of enter premises and commit indictable offence, one count of possess property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, one count of possess utensils or pipes etc that had been used, one count of trespass – unlawfully enter or remain in yard or place for business, two counts of stealing, two counts of trespass – unlawfully enter or remain in dwelling or yard.

A police prosecutor said Davey had an extensive four-page criminal history and on April 30, 2023 was captured on CCTV entering an apartment complex at Redland Bay Rd, Capalaba, poaching a bicycle and removing the wheel from a mountain bike.

“Footage was provided to police who attended his property and upon entering the front yard police observed the stolen red bike and a bike was missing a front tyre,” the Sergeant said.

“The defendant denied knowledge of the offending and said he had been given it by a friend.

“On August 10 police conducted a search warrant at his residence and observed several glass smoking pipes, items had been used, digital scales, used clip sealed bags, a cut-down straw and a grinder,” he said.

The court heard Davey was banned from Capalaba Park Shopping Centre in 2020 after a large stealing spree and on July 30 was captured, on CCTV, in the mall.

“He has a lifetime ban,” the Sergeant said.

Davey’s defence lawyer said Davey has engaged positively with drug counselling programs while he has been on parole.

“He has a newborn daughter and (a) 16 month old child,” a lawyer said.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta said Davey had been charged with five counts of stealing since 2019.

“We keep putting you on probation and nothing changes,” Ms Vasta said.

“Three years ago I saved you from spending Christmas in jail and how have you repaid me?”

“Nothing changes your life like kids, it’s the reason a lot of people get off drugs,” she said.

Davey was sentenced to two years of probation.
