Birkdale’s Mooroondu Football Club Under 9s’ Tim Green chosen top Redlands sports coach for 2021

Humble to a fault, it took some stretching and coaxing for this primo kids coach to reveal what makes him a crack shot.

A coach so good parents and kids move clubs to stay with him has been chosen as the best sports coach in the Redlands.

With such a loyal following one could be mistaken for thinking Birkdale’s Mooroondu Football Club Under 9s coach Tim Green would be full of himself, but nothing could be further from the truth.

It was all about the players, their enjoyment and progress for Green.

An industrial electrician by day and a lifelong football player, the coach was taken aback by the recognition.

“It is very unexpected; the recognition is not something you do coaching for,” he said.

“I am kind of speechless.

“It is not something I expected at all; even being nominated has come as bit of a surprise to me.”

Having coached for some five years since his son hit the pitch, Green basked in his charges’ progress.

“I most enjoy seeing the kids progress and enjoying (the game) and really learning,” he said.

“Even when it seems they are not listening, it comes to game day and the things that you have been coaching come to fruition and they actually start doing what you were showing them.

“That is very rewarding to see happen.”

Having found a home at Mooroondu FC, Green acknowledged the fine stewardship of club president Jemma Colcord.

And after some warming up, he ventured the mark of his coaching abilities may be most evident through the strength of his following.

“Quite a few of the parents have changed clubs to stay together,” Green said.

“So I have had quite a bit of support from the parents to keep the kids together.

“And obviously the kids want to stay together, so I must be doing something right.

“The kids are loving playing so that is the main thing we want to achieve and the parents obviously notice that they are progressing.”
