A LITTLE known business park has welcomed the news a major emergency services hub will soon open shop at its premises.

Redlands Business Park (RBP) sales agent Nicole Plath said the addition of an expected 60 volunteers from Redland Bay SES Group will make a big difference to the park.

It comes as Redland City Council this morning confirmed a building had been bought at the location which is expected to be operational by December.

“I think it is very exciting,” Ms Plath said

“It will bring people who don’t usually come into the park in here.”

It comes as RBP has seen a recent surge in popularity from the business sector as the $2 billion Shoreline residential development slowly gains momentum.

Division 6 Councillor Julie Talty said the proposed layout for the emergency services building would include operational space for 60 volunteers, with training rooms, bathrooms, kitchen facilities, a mezzanine level for offices that could also be used for running incident management teams and storage space for vehicle and marine assets.

“The Redland Bay SES Group is part of the overall Redland City SES Unit, which is one of the best in Australia, regularly demonstrating a breadth of skill, knowledge and professionalism in real emergencies and disasters as well as in competitions,” Cr Talty said.

Mayor Karen Williams said the building would support the group’s diverse range of functions in response to local, state and national disasters and emergencies.

“Our Redlands Coast SES volunteers are a hardworking, community minded and multi award-winning team, and their new home at Redlands Business Park will support their efforts for long into the future,” Cr Williams said.

“This team has supported our community in times of bushfire, flood and now pandemic, working hard to empower the community to help themselves and others.”

The new addition to RBP comes as it continues with a years’ long campaign for large LED signage out the front of the park, located at 678 German Church Rd, which has been hamstrung due to environmental regulations.

Ms Plath said having a council building at RBP will hopefully highlight its need for better signage and so draw in the wider community.

“It is good to have the king live with the people,” Ms Plath said.

Cr Talty last week confirmed plans were being considered to introduce signage.
