Bayside Drug Op Closure

The names of the people allegedly behind a drug trafficking “network” involving heroin and meth have been revealed after a 12-month police operation.

Detectives from the Bayside Criminal Investigation Branch closed Operation Uniform Sandri, which targeted the alleged trafficking of illicit drugs in the district, on August 29 after executing several search warrants at properties at Birkdale and Alexandra Hills.

The search warrants resulted in 28 people being charged with 420 offences, including 12 of those being charged with drug trafficking.

Quest Newspapers can reveal the names of 10 people charged with trafficking after Operation Uniform Sandri.

Among those charged is Birkdale man Rick James Bailey, who was charged with 48 offences including two counts of trafficking dangerous drugs and 31 counts of supplying dangerous drugs.

Joshua Laman Braid and Camilla Jane Thomas were also among the baysiders charged with alleged trafficking.

Braid, 35 from Birkdale, was charged with 25 offences, including two counts of trafficking dangerous drugs and 21 counts of supply dangerous drugs.

Thomas, 40, from Birkdale, was charged with 41 offences including three counts of trafficking dangerous drugs and 32 counts of supply dangerous drugs.

Queensland Police detective senior sergeant Mark Mooney said the investigation in relation to Operation Uniform Sandri targeted an alleged network of criminals who were “distributing dangerous drugs throughout the region and causing considerable harm and concern to the community”.

“These arrests, which are the culmination of more than 12 months of hard work, demonstrate our commitment to working with the community to disrupt criminal networks and maintain focus on the safety of our community in Queensland,” he said.

All 10 people charged with trafficking had police bail refused, appeared at the Cleveland Magistrates Court on August 30 and had their matters adjourned.
