Allan Mark Edie denied bailed after alleged public masturbation in Cleveland streets

A bayside man has been denied bail after allegedly prowling the streets performing gross displays in front of teenagers and a daycare centre.

A bayside man has been denied bail after allegedly “terrorising” three teenagers outside a daycare centre, masturbating and exposing himself.

Allan Mark Edie, 39, of Thornlands appeared in Cleveland Magistrates Court via video link from jail on Thursday, November 24, charged with two counts of indecent acts in a public place, two counts of committing a public nuisance, one count of assaulting a police officer, one count of obstructing a police officer and 14 counts of wilful exposure.

It was alleged Mr Edie was seen wandering the streets of Cleveland on October 12, exposing his genitals to three teenage schoolchildren outside a daycare centre before trying to escape police.

Mr Edie’s lawyer, Tanya Dower, who applied for bail, said her client was suffering from mental health issues.

“He is keen to address his mental health issues as well as his drug issues,” Ms Dower said.

“He was employed by a civil construction company and he has an offer to go back upon release.”

Magistrate Deborah Vasta said Mr Edie release would put the community in danger.

“For half an hour you were running around terrorising the community,” Ms Vasta said.

“Pulling your pants down, masturbating (in front of) three female high school students outside a daycare centre.

“Swinging your penis around, yelling, banging on cars.

“You then ran from police, of course.”

Ms Vasta said Mr Edie had a history of similar offending.

“Back in 2020 you were stealing women’s clothes from a clothes line and terrorising houses,” Ms Vasta said.

“You’ve previously been charged with indecent acts on October 29 at Wellington Point School grounds with your pants around your ankles and wanking and flicking your penis.

“Eight years ago you followed a heavily pregnant lady, while you were naked, at 2am.

“In August you sent a photo of yourself naked to a women's sanctuary.

“Later you threatened to cut off your penis with a knife at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

“Since 2014 you’ve been doing this stuff.”

Mr Edie told the court he had been mentally unwell during the time of offending.

“I’m a mental health patient, my relationship broke up, I’ve been through so much trauma,” Mr Edie said.

“I went through hell in the last two years.

“I have hurt all these people and the scary thing is I can’t remember any of it.

“I’m a caring person, your honour.”

Magistrate Vasta said the risk was too high for Mr Edie to be granted bail.

“It’s dangerous for the community for you to be out,” Ms Vasta said.

“You’re at risk of sexual assaulting someone.

“I don’t trust you out in the community and I’m not going to put you out in the community.”

Mr Edie was denied bail.

He is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on December 15 this year.
