A bayside magistrate has told a man she cannot deal with his court case after finding out the amount of illicit drugs he allegedly possessed.
Holland Park man Alex Paul Beecham, 32, appeared in Cleveland Magistrates Court on Thursday, March 30, charged with two counts of allegedly possessing dangerous drugs, along with drug driving and possessing drug utensils.
The court heard Mr Beecham was allegedly caught in possession of 6.105g of psilocybin (mushrooms) and 20 tablets of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) on February 22 this year.
Magistrate Deborah Vasta said that because of the amount of dangerous drugs Mr Beecham allegedly possessed he could not be sentenced by the magistrates court.
“They’ve got to go up to the high court because of the weight of the drugs,” Ms Vasta said.
“You will therefore stand trial in the District Court on a date to be notified.”
Mr Beecham will face Cleveland Magistrates Court for drug driving and possessing drug utensils on January 25 in 2024.
