A teenager’s ‘gross offending against her community’ has landed her in jail after she assaulted multiple people including a man who suffered a broken orbital bone, required stitches and hospitalisation.

A teen who viciously assaulted a council worker, Coles worker, police officer, young mum and a walker in separate shocking incidents has been jailed for months.

Appearing at Cleveland Magistrates Court on Friday Alana Grace Johnson, 19, of Capalaba pleaded guilty to a throng of charges.

They included serious assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, serious assault of a police officer causing bodily harm, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, three counts of stealing and obstructing police.

The court heard Johnson was 18 and had no criminal history when at around 2.50pm on March 10 last year she repeatedly bashed a Redland City Council worker at a Lota property during the seizure of a dangerous dog.

Despite the presence of police, Johnson brushed past officers and continued to punch the 37-year-old woman, the court heard.

Her victim was left with bruising to both eyes, to her arms and suffered pain to the back of her head from multiple blows.

A police officer suffered multiple puncture wounds from one of multiple dogs at the property during the violence, according to police.

The next month on April 11 at around 4.30pm Johnson flew into a violent rage when a young mum pushing her two-year-old in a walker took images of her two staffy cross breeds after the off-leash animals attacked her dog in Lota.

The court heard Johnson was with her partner Daniel Peterson, who is currently in jail for separate offences, and did nothing to stop her dogs’ attack despite the victim’s terrified pleas.

When the victim photographed Johnson’s dogs, the defendant throttled her, demanded the victim’s phone and punched her three times in the face, the court was told.

She then stole the woman’s phone and threw it in a creek.

Her victim required medical attention for scratches and bruises to her face, the court heard.

Two months later on June 1 last year at around 12.35pm she punched a Coles worker in the stomach after she was spotted stealing frozen chicken in Capalaba while she pushed her toddler in a walker.

According to a police prosecutor, Johnson used her nails to gouge a responding police officer’s face during her subsequent arrest at the shopping centre.

He suffered multiple wounds and required disease testing.

Johnson’s most serious offending occurred on March 4 when she bashed a walker who had commented on her dogs’ aggressive nature.

The court heard a man and his wife made the comments when they walked past Johnson’s Capalaba property and were so alarmed at the animals’ aggression they ran to a nearby petrol station for safety.

Johnson followed the pair with her dogs, uprooted a real estate sign and bashed the man repeatedly in the head when he bent down to pat one of her approaching dogs, the court was told.

The man bled profusely, required eight stitches, suffered a fractured orbital bone, a dislodged molar and required hospitalisation overnight.

His wife was fortunate to avoid injury when one of Johnson’s dogs bit her dress, the court heard.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Angela Tetley urged a three-year prison sentence with a third to be served for the “absolutely unprovoked, disgusting” assaults that amounted to “gross offending against the community”.

Graphic images of Johnson’s bloody handiwork, which occurred while she was on bail for similar offences bar her initial March 10, 2021 assault, were tendered to the court.

Defence solicitor Lyle Parker acknowledged there was “no excuse” for what his client had done.

According to the defence, Johnson was aware she had a serious anger management problem, came from a significantly disadvantaged background and had suffered deep trauma previously.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta denounced her for her shocking acts of violence.

Ms Vasta further noted Johnson’s complete lack of empathy for the single mother attacked by her dogs could not be explained by an anger problem.

Having served 26 days in pre-sentence custody, Johnson was sentenced to 21 months’ prison with a July 6 parole date.

She will have served four months prison at that time, the court heard.

Johnson was further sentenced to three years’ probation, fined $2000 and ordered to pay $500 in compensation to the council worker.
