A Logan man has been jailed for stalking his ex-girlfriend over a period of about 16 days, dousing her home and driveway with paint, spray-painting love notes around her neighbourhood, breaking her window and driving erratically around her house.

Logan Reserve man Raymond Gordon Charles Peacock, 46, a jack-of-all-trades who works as a floorer and tow truck driver, was arrested on March 28 this year, a day after he arrived at his victim’s property with a jerry can and doused her backyard in petrol.

He was then heard to say, “I’ll be back you stupid whore”, Beenleigh District Court heard.

Peacock’s victim was a woman he dated for about two years before their separation.

The court heard Peacock’s offending began on March 12, when he splashed “bright red paint” over his ex’s driveway.

Over the next 15 days, his offending gradually ramped up: he sent text messages, initially saying he loved and missed her, before their “flavour became threatening”, calling her from different numbers, asking to be unblocked and telling her he would “shoot up” her house.

One night, he threw a steel nut at her glass patio door, shattering it; he interfered with her motorbike and began spray-painting love notes around her neighbourhood, saying things like “I love you (victim’s name).”

He was witnessed “driving eratically” in the vicinity of the defendant’s house, before finally he was arrested after the jerry can incident, but not before dousing her house and driveway again in paint.

The court heard Peacock was born in New South Wales before moving to Queensland in 1988, living much of his adult life in Logan with periods spent in Townsville and Rockhampton.

A small snippet of Peacock’s victim’s impact statement was read onto the public record.

“Ray’s not a bad person, drugs made him behave the way he did,” she said.

Peacock was sentenced to one year, nine months’ jail.

He will be released on parole on Friday, having served some 200 days behind bars since his arrest on March 28.
