CONSTRUCTION will be fast-tracked at Carseldine Village following the awarding of an $8.9 million contract to complete civil and electrical works.
Queensland civil contracting company Shadforth has won the contract for the Economic Development Queensland project on the site of the former QUT campus off Beams Rd.
Minister for State Development Cameron Dick said Shadforth would start working on the village’s 53 terrace lots in April, with the civil and electrical components to be completed later this year.
Mr Dick said the project would create 60 local construction jobs in the initial stage, with another 50 jobs to be created once construction began on the two-storey terrace homes.
“The jobs will help to support Queensland families during an incredibly challenging time for the industry and the nation at large,” he said.
“With everything that’s happening across our country and the world right now, it’s crucial we keep industries that can employ moving forward.”
In addition to the terrace lots, Shadforth will also upgrade three nearby intersections to improve local traffic flow and access to the village.

Mr Dick said EDQ also conducted an industry-wide EOI process to identify the right builder partners for the village, with Vantage Homes QLD and Thompson Sustainable Homes chosen to help deliver the project.
“Both these builders have extensive expertise delivering well designed, sustainable and affordable terrace homes,” Mr Dick said,
The Carseldine Village website showcases nine styles of terrace homes from two to four bedrooms and ranging in price from $374,900 to $565,900.
Shadforth Managing Director Ray Shadforth praised the State Government for “taking steps to underpin our economy with projects like this”.
“Shadforth is focused on building sustainable communities and community assets, and Carseldine Village will deliver on these attributes and more,” Mr Shadforth said.

In February, a Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning spokesman said EDQ had already been overwhelmed with expressions of interest for the freehold terrace homes.
“Carseldine Village is the first residential development in Queensland to commit to delivering net zero emissions with energy saving features to slash power bills,” the spokesman said.
“The terrace-style homes will include solar PV, battery storage, airconditioning systems controlled by smart phones, heat pump hot water systems and garages ready to accommodate an electric vehicle charger.”
The masterplan for Carseldine Village is proposed to be developed in five stages over the next three to five years, subject to market demand, with a mix of residential living, green space and retail.
This is in addition to the $6.5 million sport and recreation precinct, The Green, which was completed earlier this year and is now open.

The precinct features three soccer/rugby league fields, a cricket pitch and practice cages, two tennis courts, a half basketball court, exercise equipment, children’s playgrounds, barbecue areas, amenities and dressing sheds.
