The cause of a crash that killed one woman and left another with a permanent ankle disability remains a mystery despite a woman pleading guilty to driving without due care and attention.

The Pine Rivers Magistrates Court heard on Sunday, November 18 last year, Tracey Anne Swann was driving in her car with her mother on Eaton’s Crossing Rd when she failed to navigate a turn running head on into an oncoming vehicle.

Swann’s mother died in hospital in the days after the crash, the woman driving the other car suffered a serious ankle injury leaving her with a permanent disability.

The court head Swann had to stay in hospital for weeks and has “complete amnesia” regarding the crash.

She suffered a broken neck and leg from the crash and had to wear a medical halo for some time.

Her lawyer Daniel Hannay said Swann does not know why she did not take the corner but “is accepting responsibility” for the outcome.

“We are in a situation where there is no explanation,” Mr Hannay said.

She has since returned to New Zealand where she lived and pleaded guilty in her absence.

Magistrate Trevor Morgan said the circumstances of the offending are tragic in many aspects.”

Swann was disqualified from driving for six months and fined $1000.
