A Brisbane shopping centre under relatively new management, has decided to close the doors of a beloved discount store.
The Reject Shop Deagon closed on August 3, with the shop’s landlord and Marketplace Deagon management not renewing the store’s lease.
The landlord is One CCW Pty Ltd (ACN 620 519 262) as trustee for the Marketplace Deagon Asset Trust, while the shopping centre is managed by Ganellen Property Management.
A spokesperson for The Reject Shop said, “After serving the Deagon community for the last fifteen years, unfortunately the landlord has determined that The Reject Shop at Deagon needs to close shortly (3 August 2023).
“All of our team members will relocate to nearby stores.
“The Reject Shop’s purpose is to help all Australians save money every day, and we would like to welcome everyone to continue to shop at our store at Taigum Square.
“At The Reject Shop you will get real brands and real savings every day.
“The Reject Shop continues to look for new locations where it can more conveniently serve more Australians.”
Locals took to Facebook to voice their displeasure.
Kate Richards wrote, “Oh, it’s such a great little shop.
Angie Schlegel wrote, “Why? After word of new food shops coming into the other empty shop spaces, why are these guys leaving?
Tracey Tin wrote, “On Bugger! That’s a shame as it’s nice and close. At least there is a new one at Strathpine.”
Marketplace Deagon, 55-75 Braun Street, sold for $20 million to Sydney-based Ganellen Asset Management in 2022.
Ganellen also acquired and repositioned the Woolworths-anchored Kallangur Fair Shopping Centre in August 2021.
Marketplace Deagon is anchored by Fresh & Save Food Warehouse on a 15 year lease to 2031, supported by other headline tenants, Guppy’s Early Learning, Rackley Swimming and Club Lime gym.
Ganellen Property Management and Marketplace Deagon were contacted for comment.
