Teen faces assault charge for laying into former Albany Creek classmate

A schoolyard dispute carried over to the streets when an 18-year-old spotted his former nemesis at train station.

Australia's Court System

A former student of Albany Creek High School was this week threatened with jail time after he leaned into a former classmate’s car to punch him in the face.

Lachlan Alexander Anderson, 18, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm at the Pine Rivers Magistrates court.

The court heard Anderson saw the victim at Carseldine train station around 3pm on August 30, and called out to him as he walked to his car.

The victim turned around, saw Anderson and they started to push and shove each other.

The victim tried to escape by getting into his car and closing the door, but Anderson opened the door and punched him on the left side of the face, causing his lip to split open and start bleeding, according to police prosecutor Graham Turner.

Lawyer for the defence Shaun Kolo told the court Anderson knew the victim from Albany Creek High School, where he’d recently completed grade 11, and sought payback after the victim had attended his home to try to fight him.

Magistrate Trevor Morgan said the dispute sounded like something a grade 1 child might get involved in.

“Young people do stupid things from time to time,” Mr Morgan said.

“One of the most important things is to learn from these mistakes and grow up to be an experienced, well-rounded person, otherwise you’ll end up in jail.”

Anderson was placed on a $1000 good behaviour bond for 12 months and no conviction was recorded.

Mr Morgan warned Anderson that, should he return to court on a similar offence in the future, any Magistrate looking at the cost of his good behaviour bond would know the offence was a “fairly serious event” and he could face jail time.
