City Planning Chair Matthew Bourke said the draft strategy outlined Brisbane City Council’s vision for the district, while protecting its character and heritage.
“Neighbourhood plans are great opportunities for Council to work with communities to develop a vision for their local area,” Cr Bourke said.
“Earlier this year, residents in the Sandgate district participated in Community Planning Team meetings, online feedback and email submissions and we have included lots of these suggestions into the draft strategy.
“We are carefully planning for Brisbane’s growth, which means stronger communities, more local jobs and making better use of space.

“It’s important to prepare for the future by addressing the needs of the community over the next 10 years and beyond.
“We know residents love the Sandgate district and that’s why we are preparing a draft strategy that retains the area’s character, environment and heritage, while providing the essential services and infrastructure needed for the next generation.
“We have listened to the community to understand what they want and now we are inviting them to view the draft strategy for further feedback.”
Residents are encouraged to offer their feedback by visiting Council’s website (brisbane.qld.gov.au) before November 4. The draft strategy is expected to go online today (October 8).

After receiving feedback, Council will then prepare a draft neighbourhood plan and forward it to the State Government, which will complete a state interest review and approve the draft plan for public notification and final community submissions.
The new Sandgate District Neighbourhood Plan is expected to be adopted and form part of the City Plan by late 2020.
