A beloved north Brisbane mechanic is set to retire and shutdown his garage after more than 40 years of service.

Peter Scott, just months off turning 67, first opened Pete’s Garage back in 1982 when he was just 25 years old.

“When I first started I just had a workshop at a servo in Wavell Heights,” Mr Scott said.

“As I started to build up my customer base and get better I eventually took over selling the petrol there too.

“Then in 1995 I moved to where the business currently is at Nundah.”

Mr Scott moved to Brisbane from England when he was just 17 and completed his mechanic apprenticeship at the Grange Caltex.

He has had an incredibly successful career and said he was proud of his legacy.

“I’m happy and excited to retire but am also a little sad it’s all over,” Mr Scott said.

“It was a big part of my life for most of my life.

“I’ve had customers who have been seeing me for the entire 40 years. Then I started servicing their children’s cars and now even their grandchildren’s cars.

“It’s been really lovely to hear all of their nice comments since we announced the closure. It means a lot to me.”

The team took to Facebook to share their closure.

“To our valued customers...after servicing vehicles for Nundah and surrounds for 41 years, Pete’s Garage is closing its doors for the final time on Friday September 29,” they said.

“As a family owned and operated business we have had many customers come through our workshop.

“We appreciate your loyalty, friendship and custom over the many years.

“Pete is looking forward to retirement and welcoming his first grandchild. Once again, thankyou for your support and all the best.”

Looking back on his career, Mr Scott said he was excited for the next chapter of his life.

“My daughter Elle (who works reception) is going to have her first baby any day now,” he said.

“The contractions have just started.

“I’m incredibly excited to be a grandfather and to get to spend more quality time with my family.”

An avid snorkeller, Mr Scott also has plans to travel Australia.

“I really love gardening and travelling,” he said.

“I’m hoping to see more of Australia.

“Hoping to get to Western Australia and the Norther Territory.

“Anywhere near the reef really. I just love snorkelling and being out there with the fish, sting rays, sharks and turtles. It’s a beautiful experience.”

Pete’s Garage, which has built a solid reputation for customer satisfaction throughout Nundah and surrounds, will be remembered as a friendly and courteous team who pride themselves on old fashioned values and service.

“I’m sad to be losing that relationship with my customers but am incredibly grateful for their support,” Mr Scott said.

“Without them I wouldn’t have been able to keep the business going.

“It’s really the people and community which means the most to me.”
