St Joseph’s Nudgee College schoolboy Noah McFadyen made a splendid Bulls Masters first grade debut as Norths crushed Redlands.

McFadyen, a genuine swing bowler, took 3-39 as Norths successfully defended its 2-415 by dismissing Redlands for 245.

“For a 16-17 year-old, he was very mature, had good variation and bowled far beyond his years,’’ said club coach Ken Healy.

Healy said McFadyen, who was also a talented Australian rules footballer, “did everything to be retained’’ although that might change when the club’s state players return.

“At the moment he does everything we are looking for,’’ Healy said.

Healy was thrilled with the team performance in the field against Redlands.

He said while the bowlers had the luxury of defending 2-415, “those days on flat wickets can go pear shaped’’ if attacks were not disciplined. “The team stuck to its plans and our spinners bowled well.’’

With the new ball swing bowler Sam Hele (3-74) and Connor Sully (2-43) claimed a wicket each before McFadyen claimed his first scalp, Michael McEwan, and then Dylan Kritzinger, caught by Nudgee College old boy Nathan McSweeney.

Hele and Connor then returned to work their way through the middle order before Redlands’ lower order player Charles Mailli resisted with a brisk 97.
