Revealing new data from the Queensland Police Service has uncovered where the traffic crime hot spots are in Brisbane’s northern bayside region.

Traffic-related offences include speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, disobeying a red light, and careless driving or dangerous driving.

Over the course of 2020, close to 3500 alleged offences were recorded across the North Brisbane QPS division, with the number of recorded incidents spiking in March, May and June, the months immediately both pre- and post-coronavirus lockdown.

The intersection of Telegraph Rd and Norris Rd continues to cause problems in Bracken Ridge, where a cluster of ten incidents were recorded.

The data reported a further 17 incidents along Telegraph Rd, making it one of the most problematic roads in the region.

A large cluster of 19 incidents were also recorded in the area surrounding the Deagon Deviation, near Peace Park and the on ramp onto Bracken Ridge Rd.

Hornibrook Highway, near the Deagon Deviation, is another hotspot with a cluster of four traffic crimes recorded there.

North Brisbane’s most bizarre crime stories of 2020

The roundabout connecting Southerden St and Rainbow St has also been the location of a number of traffic crimes, with three noted on Rainbow St and another three near the Rotary Park.

According to the data, traffic offences in Brisbane’s north seem to primarily occur between 8pm and midnight, with weekend drivers attracting the most police attention.

Presently, there are active mobile speed cameras sites at:

  • Sandgate Rd at Nundah
  • Bracken Ridge Rd, Denham St, Hoyland St, and Norris Rd at Bracken Ridge
  • Beams Rd, Zillmere Rd, Dunsford Rd, Murphy Rd and Handford Rd at Zillmere
  • Loftus St and Board St at Deagon
  • Rainbow St at Sandgate
  • Lascelles St, Beaconsfield Tce, Hornibrook Hwy and Craig St at Brighton
