Plans for a leading fast food restaurant and drive-through in north Brisbane have been revealed.
Guzman Y Gomez will open its newest site at Boondall, on the corner of Sandgate and Zillmere roads.
A development application for the project was submitted to Brisbane City Council this week revealing the restaurant chain’s plans to revamp the former Sultan’s Turkish Family Restaurant site, which closed late last year. Before it became Sultan’s — a Brisbane icon for 15 years— it was known as Bernie’s restaurant.
Plans, by Property Projects Australia, include a indoor and outdoor dining areas as well as updated fascia, 11 car-parks and a drive-through with two order points.
“In line with known customer preferences, a high percentage of patrons utilise the drive thru facility more frequently than dining in the outlet in suburban locations,” the application said.
“This is an increasing trend in today’s society, particularly following the 2020 pandemic situation.”
While the site will receive a significant makeover, the core of the existing building will be retained.
The restaurant joins existing outlets in the same complex — Boondall Convenience Centre — including Zarraffa’s Coffee, Zambrero, Noodlebox, Subway and Hungry Jacks.
