A wrecking ball could soon be taken to a car yard on Brisbane’s northside after plans to build a series of residential towers were given State Government approval.

The proposal includes 516 units across six residential apartment buildings.

A seventh five-storey building will include both apartments and ground-floor office space.

The application for the mixed-use development at 490 Beams Road, Fitzgibbon was given the green light subject to a number of strict conditions.

RJ and KO Kelly family Trust submitted the Wiltshire Stevens Architecture-designed proposal mid-last year before approval was finally granted in August.

The 35,572sqm site, which is currently home to Bob Kelly’s Wrecking, was on the market for several years prior to the lodgement of the plans.

The existing vehicle wrecking yard, buildings and structures will be removed as part of the redevelopment.

The multistage project neighbours the Carseldine Urban Village, which is currently being developed by Economic Development Queensland, as well as the nearby Carseldine Train Station.

The approval was granted by Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) as an existing part of the Fitzgibbon Priority Development Area.

It’s understood the size of the site has been reduced to cater for future widening of the Beams Rd and the Rail Corridor.

The development is proposed to be constructed in seven stages with the buildings ranging from five to eight-storeys in height.

Around 180 one-bedroom apartments, 229 two-bedroom apartments and 107 three-bedroom apartments have been proposed along with 1260sqm in office space.

Vehicle access to development will be via Beams Rd with 749 residential and 81 visitor car parks spaces accounted for.

Stage one will include a communal recreation and barbecue area along with playgrounds and gardens.

About 78 units will be constructed in the first eight-storey buildings.

Construction timing remains unknown at this stage.

Bob Kelly’s Wrecking Yard was contacted for comment but did not respond prior to publishing.
