A woman and a man were “scared for their lives” and an elderly woman headbutted in a terrifying attack.

Louis Daniel Bakker pleaded guilty at Sandgate Magistrates Court to sexual assault, serious assault of a person aged over 60, going armed to cause fear, wilful damage, stealing a car and drink driving.

On November 25 last year, Bakker was highly intoxicated on alcohol and illicit substances.

He was with a group of people including a 29-year-old woman.

Bakker’s lawyer Brendan Beavon said the two had been flirting earlier in the evening.

In the early hours of the morning Bakker, armed with a knife and highly intoxicated, sexually assaulted the woman and a 24-year-old man.

With a knife in his hand he told them to “come here you c***s, I’m going to stab you”.

Magistrate Jennifer Batts said the two “feared for their lives”.

A 72-year-old woman, who lived nearby, was woken by yelling and screaming and came to tell them to be quiet.

After she walked through the open front door Bakker headbutted her and knocked her to the ground.

Bakker damaged items in the house with the knife before he jumped in a car that was not his, and drove away.

When he was arrested by police he had a blood alcohol reading of 0.132.

Mr Beavon said on the night Bakker was “heavily intoxicated” on alcohol and illicit drugs.

Bakker spent 19 days in custody on the charges.

He said Bakker suffered anxiety and depression and had stopped taking his medication about a week before the incident.

Bakker had written a letter of apology to the victims.

Mr Beavon said Bakker had a “regrettable evening” but he had shown “significant remorse”.

Ms Batts said Bakker’s mental health was a key mitigating factor that kept him from being given a jail sentence.

He was placed on probation for 18 months and ordered to perform 200 hours of unpaid community service and he was disqualified from driving for six months. A conviction was recorded.
