A new timber trade area is just the beginning for this popular hardware store which is proposing to buy up land and repurpose buildings.

Tradies in Brisbane’s north are in for a treat as plans are revealed to expand the Bunnings Warehouse at Stafford by a whopping 2,427m².

A development application lodged with the Brisbane City Council reveals plans for a major expansion at the Bunnings Warehouse in Stafford.

After two years of preparation and negotiation with the Brisbane City Council, the popular hardware store submitted a development application in October to extend the pre-existing store at 450 Stafford Rd, replacing the previously approved display and sales area with a timber trade sales area.

Should the application be approved, Bunnings will also repurpose buildings located at 33 Windorah street to construct a new, fully-enclosed building materials and landscape yard, a nursery area, two new showrooms and 176 additional car parks.

There is expected to be a new access road via Windorah St and truck access along the entire length of the site’s western boundary.

Planners at Mecone said there was strong local demand for an expansion, though it seems not everyone is pleased with the news.

An anonymous resident submitted a formal complaint to the BCC because the site will share a boundary with the Kedron Brook green space.

“It will make the site less desirable to access via bicycle and foot, increasing the reliance on private motor vehicles and the road network,” the complainant said.

The proposal was first taken to the BCC for a pre-lodgement discussion in 2018, in which city planners identified potential problems with land use, access and parking.

The plans lodged last week seem to have addressed those concerns with an extensive, drought-hardy landscaping plan, alternative truck access through Windorah St, widened driveways to facilitate truck movements and a number of new parking areas across the site.

The BCC is yet to make a decision regarding the application.
